The invited speaker is Dr. Jonathan Trent, NASA research scientist and Adjunct Professor of Biomolecular Engineering at the University of California, Santa Cruz. His research focuses on how extremophiles adapt to live in harsh environments and how their protein structures can be used to construct robust, self-assembling, genetically versitile tools for nanotechnology. His nanotechnology is being applied to developing better ways of making biofuels. For furhter information regarding his research, watch his TED Talk. Here he discusses some of his work on the OMEGA project.
