Jelmer Poelstra received his BS in Biology and MS in Evolutionary Biology at the University of Groningen in The Netherlands. For his PhD in Evolutionary Genetics at Uppsala University in Sweden, Jelmer worked on the genetics of coloration and the genomics of speciation in two closely related, hybridizing crow taxa: carrion and hooded crows. Jelmer next studied population genomics of Cameroon crater lake cichlids and phylogenetics and speciation history in mouse lemurs during postdocs at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill and Duke University. He currently works as a bioinformatician at the MCIC in Wooster, where you can ask him about most kinds of genomic analyses and scripting in bash, R, and Python. In his spare time, Jelmer heads outside, and when possible, travels to faraway places, to look at birds.
