Dr. Bisaro received his B.S. and Ph.D. from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. He completed his postdoc work in molecular virology at the Imperial College, University of London, England. Dr. Bisaro bagan his faculty appointments at the University of Auburn before coming to The Ohio State University. He is currently a professor in the Department of Molecular Genetics. Dr. Bisaro was elected to the American Association for the Advancement of Sciences (AAAS) in 2011. 

The Bisaro Laboratory is interested in the molecular biology of geminiviruses (e.g. Cabbage leaf curl virus and Beet curly top virus), including the regulation of viral gene expression and DNA replication and viral pathogenesis. Current work is focused on understanding host defenses directed against geminiviruses, including post-transcriptional gene silencing (PTGS) caused by methylation of viral chromatin, and how the geminivirus proteins AL2 and L2 counter these RNA silencing-based defenses. Related collaborative studies are exploring whether mammalian viruses (e.g. Herpes Simplex Virus Type 1) are also subject to and suppress RNA silencing-based defenses. Another important research focus in the lab involves a basal defense conditioned by SnRK1 kinase, which is also countered by geminivirus AL2 and L2 proteins.
