Groups report out after a breakout session on building a BI plan

On Wednesday, June 6th the Center for Applied Plant Sciences co-sponsored a Broader Impacts (BI) Workshop along with support from the Office of Outreach and Engagement. The workshop, which explored broader impacts from a variety of angles, was made available to faculty, staff and graduate students from across the University. Topics included a look at the history of broader impacts at the National Science Foundation, building a BI plan, broadening participation in STEM, evaluation and establishing your BI identity. The workshop was facilitated by members of the National Alliance for Broader Impacts' Steering Committee, Jory Weintraub (Duke University) and Janice McDonnell (Rutgers University). Thirty-three people attended the workshop, which was held in Rightmire Hall on Ohio State's West Campus. Of those, there were 14 faculty, 2 postdocs, 8 graduate students and 9 staff. Representation from across the University was diverse, encompassing two campuses (Columbus and Wooster), three colleges (ASC, FAES, and Medicine) and various interdisciplinary centers and other units.
