CAPS Mobile Coffee Event Summary

Rinaldo

On April 29, 2016 Professor Ken Rinaldo presented as a part of the Center for Applied Plant Sciences (CAPS) weekly Seminar Series. Professor Rinaldo, who heads the art and technology program in the Department of Art at The Ohio State University, creates interactive media art installations that blend the natural world with technological systems. His work has been displayed nationally and internationally, including in galleries in Australia, France, Spain, Austria and Finland. Ken’s presentation explored the symbiotic relationship between art, science and sustainability. An overview of many of his projects provided an in-depth demonstration of how nature and scientific research have inspired much of his work. Rinaldo gave attendees a glimpse into his creative process, providing a fresh perspective much different than the traditional research presentations that are featured in the CAPS Seminar Series. This unique presentation served as an opportunity for an interdisciplinary group of researchers and students to consider the creative potential of science. This event was attended by more than 65 staff, students and faculty in Rightmire Hall and on the OARDC campus in Wooster (via video link). CAPS would like to thank The Humanities and the Arts Discovery Theme for their support of this seminar with the Mobile Coffee grant program.
